Our Mission

To provide efficient and cost effective integrated measures aimed at eliminating Trypanosomiasis from the hosts and setting the agenda for eradicating the tsetse fly vector in Uganda.

The Uganda Trypanosomiasis Control Council (UTCC) with its secretariat, the Coordinating Office for Coordinating Office for Control of Trypanosomiasis in Uganda (COCTU) is mandated to formulate policies, guidelines and to ensure that tsetse and trypanosomiasis control and research is carried out in accordance with the Act 1992 (Ch. 211).

Looking back at where it all began, it is now over 21 years when Uganda decided that it was time to deal with the problem of trypanosomiasis in the country and everyone who was
supposed to play a role was brought on board under the Uganda Trypanosomiasis Control Council (UTCC) and its secretariat, Coordinating Office for Trypanosomiasis Control in Uganda (COCTU). Read more...

Who we are

Uganda Trypanosomiasis Control Council (UTCC) was created by Parliament as a corporate body through the Act 1992 (Ch. 211) which legalized the Council, the Technical Committee and Coordinating Office for Control of Trypanosomiasis in Uganda (COCTU) as the Secretariat of the Council.  COCTU is a one Health platform to Human and Animal Trypanosomiasis.  This was an effort to rationalize the tsetse and trypanosomiasis research and control in Uganda.

The Secretariat works in close working relationships with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry, Ministry of Local Government, Ministry of Land, Water and Environment and there is a close liaison with International Organisations like International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Food and Agriculture (FAO), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), World Health Organisation (WHO), African Union (AU) specifically Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources (IBAR)and Pan African tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Eradication Campaign (PATTEC) Secretariat, the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) through the Livestock Health Research Institute (LIRI), Tororo.
